One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.
Cue flashbacks to questionable decisions, courtesy of tequila. Though we’ve all had our fair share of tequila, the reality stands that it’s a rarity anyone spends much time considering what tequila shot they’re about to shoot.
“The best tequila,” says Cabo San Lucas tequilier Dorian, “is the one you like.”
A trip down to Mexico to dip your toes in the world of tequila at the heart of its origin will have you convinced it’s time to put down the shot glass, grab the tequila glass, and slow down to appreciate tequila for the damn fine spirit it is, just like our amigos to the south do.
Across the border, tequila is loved, celebrated, and sipped, as it should be.
With its proximity to us, the tequila love in Mexico is slowly making its way up to the States and we are seeing tequila pop up in more places.
It’s safe to say the VISCERAL crew is obsessed with this crisp and clean drink, and we have a few reasons why. However, first and foremost, we must admit our favorite thing about this spirit is that it is just as moody as we are.
Regardless of the mood and vibe you’re feeling there’s the perfect tequila to go with it.
We served as the guinea pigs for testing this theory by signing up for a tequila tasting in Los Cabos, and here are our results: the best tequila for your every mood.
The Best Tequilas For Your Moods
Party like it’s 1999 | Don Julio Blanco

If you’re in the mood to release your inner tiger and party as if there is no tomorrow, then the tequila for your night is Don Julio Blanco. It is a rich blanco with just the right amount of sweetness, and goes down well as a shot or as part of a mixed drink. Stick to this spirit that has just a hint of citrus, and your party is guaranteed to be all that, and then some.
Girls just wanna have fun | Herradura Reposado

Vibing a girl’s night? Whether that takes you all out to the bar, or keeps you at home to drink and dance the night away, expect the maximum fun by drinking Herradura Reposado. However, you’ll want to stick with sipping this one — it has a syrupy consistency that is much better enjoyed with a mixed drink than as a shot. Not too strong with a slight woody taste that’s complemented by hints of vanilla, there is no doubt you’ll have more fun than you bargained for when drinking this.
Saturdays are for the boys | 1800 Añejo
photo | @donjuliotequila
When you’re feeling a guys night out where the possibility of cigars and clubs are in the air, then 1800 Añejo is what you’ll want to be sipping on. Because this tequila is aged in French Oak barrels for at least 14 months, you’ll be tasting some serious wood notes with a twist of Mexican hot chocolate. Definitely stick to sipping on this tequila, and you’ll find yourself making Saturdays with this tequila your new guys tradition.
Netflix and chill | Casa Noble Extra Añejo

If the mood you’re feeling is staying in but still enjoying the finer things in life, grab for some of Casa Noble Extra Añejo. All bottled from one single barrel, you know you are in for a treat before you even take a sip. This tequila’s spiciness vibes perfectly with its heavy wood taste (that’s thanks to the 3+ years it spent in a barrel), and you’ll be left with its perfectly rich taste on your tongue. Emphasis on the chill with this one, this tequila will be getting far more attention than Netflix tonight.
